JUST AS THE OLYMPIC GAMES begin with an opening ceremony that sets the course and celebrates unity, at GIRE we began 2024 with a clear vision and a defined strategy. We set ambitious goals and defined the steps necessary to achieve them, focusing on education, visibility, and access to reproductive rights.
Through public policy advocacy, case study support, research, and communication strategies, we strengthened our priority objectives and defined the activities that will bring us closer to reaching our goals:
That all women and people with childbearing potential have access to legal and safe abortions. Our main objective is the legal and social decriminalization of abortion in Mexico and that the State guarantees access to abortion as a health service.
That all women and people with childbearing potential have access to quality reproductive health services, including pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care, and that their decisions are respected without discrimination.
That care work is a shared responsibility among individuals, families, society, businesses, and the State; and that the conditions under which care is provided and received are adequate for all parties.
We prepared to face the challenging year by consolidating a committed and trained team, ready to run the race. Faced with the threat of acts that seek to restrict, eliminate, or ignore the progress achieved, the professionalism and tenacity of each member has been essential to sustaining victories. Because we know that together we are stronger and we can achieve more, we promote strategies with diverse actors who strive every day to expand reproductive rights at the local, national, and international levels, including working with organizations, activists, journalists, legislators, and media outlets.
